Below we explain our process for giving and receiving referrals to or from other law firms.
Give us a call or email if you want to discuss a referral arrangement with our firm.
Outgoing Referral to Attorneys
We begin every client interaction by collecting detailed information about their legal situation or needs. We create a detailed case summary to determine whether our firm can serve the needs of the client. If no, we seek permission from the client to seek referral of the case to a trusted, reputable firm in our network.
We reach out directly to a referral partner via telephone to discuss the client’s case. If the referral partner is interested in the case, we negotiate a referral fee or fee sharing arrangement. (NOTE: We refer all types of cases, but we only accept or pay referral fees on cases involving contingency fee arrangements.). Once this is settled, we provide the referral partner with our Case Referral Notice, which contains client contact information, a general description of the legal matter, and the details of any referral fee (if applicable). We then inform the client of the referral agreement and instruct the client on making contact with the referred attorney.
Upon establishment of an attorney-client relationship with the referred attorney, we request a copy of the client engagement letter and fee agreement containing notice to the client of the negotiated, fee-sharing agreement. Throughout the representation, we may request routine updates on the case status from referred attorney or client. We are careful not to interfere with the autonomy of the referred attorney in handling the case or the attorney-client relationship.
Incoming Referrals from Attorneys
We accept referral of clients through any form of personal introduction to the client and their legal matter. When the potential client makes contact, we undertake a thorough discussion of their situation. If we undertake representation, we execute an engagement agreement with the client containing notice of any fee-sharing agreement with the referring attorney.
We provide a copy of the client representation agreement containing any fee-sharing provision to the attorney. Throughout our representation of the client, we provide routine updates on the case status to the referring attorney.
Upon final disposition of the case and collection of any attorney fees or proceeds, we distribute proceeds from the settlement or award in accordance with the referral or fee-sharing agreement.
